The Amazon Kindle e-book version of Katydid is now available, and the paperback version, as well.

Both should be available via this link:

The Amazon Kindle e-book version is sightly different from the Smashwords version, but only in some formatting.

Here are the direct links:

I officially published my novelette, Katydid.

It is available as an e-book (Kindle and other formats) and as a paperback.

It will take about a week for it to show up on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and other locations.

But it can be ordered now if you are so inclined.

Check out my official author's page at:

You can purchase Kindle and other e-book versions at:

www.smashwords.com/books/view/…

And a paperback version is available at:

Feedback and spreading of the word is appreciated.

This is the book jacket description:

Katydid is an inevitably uplifting story about a day in the life of a 10-year-old girl
trying to survive on her own in a post-apocalyptic world. Staying alive and dealing with
the daily perils in After is not easy. Trying to not become prey for the many predators
that rise out of the ashes is often the least of your worries. It would not be easy for anyone,
much less a lone, young girl. After losing everything she had, and everyone she knew,
from Before, Katy is bound and determined to keep the one thing she has left – her life.
Such as it is. And will be.

This medium-length novelette is an extended adaptation of the author’s short film screenplay
of the same name, which is included, along with two poems.

QED

3 min read
Aren't people EVER going to get fed up with and sick and tired of bwitches, assholes,
kunts, bastards, fvckwads, low-lifes, ignorants, and various other forms of
worthless pieces of shit trash scumbags???
Most of them in the extremes of those categories.

Do we really need people of sub-intellectual and pseudo-intellectual mentalities,
and worse, clogging up the world in which we live? People who are SO grotesque and
hideous on the inside, which will always 'shine' through, no matter how hard they
try to hide it, that they make the world a lesser place by their presence.
People who have no sense of true, simple common decency. (and related attributes)

(yes, I'm speaking specifically to  kicsterash.deviantart.com/
as the latest in a LONG line of that ilk)

If people keep condoning and excusing these people's questionable and lesser behaviors,
they will continue to rain on all our parades.

People need to speak out and be vocal about their asininity so that they can be stopped
from making the world a lesser place, like spoiled rotten apples in the barrel of life.

Agreed, some of them are obviously having some fairly severe mental and/or
emotional issues, but that doesn't mean you let them run rampant over the world.

STOP THE INSANITY!!! (sometimes literally)

If all of us "normal" people group together, we can shout down the stanky rank puswads
and help to make the world a better place, the place it should be, but cannot be with these
people "in" it. (a measure of their so-called lives is how much of a better place the world
will be due to their absence when they finally die, which is never soon enough)

(and don't fall for their "but I'm really a nice person, really I am" CRAP -- they also tend
to be liars, thieves (of various kinds), manipulators, deceivers, users, abusers, and the like)

The following is the ultimate description of who and what these people are and why they
need to be removed from the world -- Ignored; Spurned; Castigated; Dismissed;
Disregarded; Ostracized; and otherwise excluded and cast out.

The only monsters in this world
are those who pass for human,
who cast shadows, and are reflected in mirrors,
who smile, and speak of compassion, and empathy,
and shed convincing tears,
in the inevitably in vain attempt to convince some
that it is they who are good and decent.

Here is why they, and men and women like them,
must not be allowed to achieve their ends.

The World is not theirs.

They could claim it only with the use of lies, bullying,
intimidation, harassment, cowardly threats, and violence —
violence in all of its forms – physical, mental, and emotional.

If We let them win, there would be no moments of Peace,
Tranquility, or Serenity.... or simplicious Joy,
ever again.

For most of My life, I had a Covenant with Death,
to spare others, as I have often been spared,
to be a Man of Peace.

Such a Covenant ceases to be Noble,
and in fact would become a shameful thing,
if it requires that I not defend My Life,
or the lives and well-being of the Innocent.
There are also the principles of the many things.

Thanks to DarkRiderDLMC for offering to make me a book cover free gratis no charge.
That was very nice of him and he deserves extra karma points.

I finally came up with a few dollars and decided to go with my original idea.

So I purchased a stock photo and manipulated it into the cover I envisioned.
It turned out better than I thought it would, and good enough.
So I am relatively happy.

The book (novelette) is on the verge of being published. Any day now.
I'll publish the cover here as a deviation. (is that what they're called?)

It was a lot of work. And I won't make any money off of it, because
novelettes don't really make money. But it was fun and interesting and
the story isn't half bad if I do say so myself. As I mention in the
Author's Foreword, "the story apparently HAD to come into being".
I was just the instrument of its demise.

It will be available as an e-book and paperback.

The title is "Katydid". Here is the back of the book cover description:

Unfortunately, I have no money.

I don't know if anyone will see this, but if you do, and are willing or able to do something, I can probably pay something, probably over time.
It could potentially be a nice get for someone who could say, "One of my pieces was used for a book cover".
I tend to be a little... choosy... about such things, just so you know. (persnickety, demanding, perfectionist)
So, if you create something and it's just not quite right, I hope you won't be offended or upset, etc.

I found a stock photo image that is close to what I want. It costs about $50. (took me 'forever' to find this)
Here's a link to the photo.
I wanted more of a "direct face-forward look into the camera" type of view, but couldn't find anything like that.

I would have to mess with this photo in Photoshop to make her look less like a pretty young photo model. Dirty up her face, maybe put darkness under her eyes, that sort of thing. And maybe put it 'over' (surrounded by) a background of a forest and/or post-apocalyptic wasteland-like imagery.
I haven't decided what I want to do other than that. Either a false-color cover, maybe blue (with white text), or a very desaturated color photo image style.
If it was "artwork" instead of a photo, then I would have to modify what I do around that.

If push comes to shove, I might just draw it myself. My (lack of) skillz are such that I could try to make it look just like this photo and it would look nothing like her. But maybe close to what I want.

I was basically looking for a young girl (age 10-11-ish) who is kind of sad, and lonely, and freaked out (because she has lost both of her parents and her sister), and has had a hard time of it, who is kind of innocent and vulnerable, but who is also determined and strong -- an ultimate survivor. I want her to be girl-next-door pretty-ish and attractive, but not overly so.

This is the current "bookcover description" of my novelette, "Katydid".

Katydid
is an inevitably uplifting story about 'a day in the life' of a 10 year old girl trying to survive on her own in a post-apocalyptic world. Staying alive and dealing with daily perils, as well as not becoming prey to the many predators that would rise out of the ashes, would not be easy for anyone, much less a lone, young girl. This medium-sized novelette is an extended adaptation of the author's short film screenplay of the same name.

=====

This is the first paragraph of the story:

=====

Run, Katy, RUN!

The words pounded in Katy's mind like her heart was pounding in her chest; her blood thrushing through her veins. Other than quick decisions whether to keep straight, or dog left or right, Katy didn't seem to be able to think of anything else. Although a stray thought suddenly hit her– Is this what rabbits feel like when they're running from their hunter? A predator chasing its prey. Katy knew what it felt like to be hunted, to be prey, and to be chased, but she had never been in this predicament. Nothing this extreme. Usually she was so careful. A young girl in After had to be careful. You can't be too careful. That was a good rule to live by. If you wanted to live, to stay alive in this new world.

=====

Anyway, it will be published soon, one way or another.
